Dear Temple Bác

One weekend morning I decided to stop by the temple before continuing on with my original plans of studying at a cafe. The past weeks have been rough emotionally for various reasons, which is why I made this stop. I didn't grow up going to temple every week like others. Now as an adult, I find that I want to go. I feel a sense of peace when I can sit by the alters. I was strolling along the lengthy path towards the main building when I saw you, Bác. I saw you with your arms hooked behind you as most elderly do. Not that you were doing anything to draw attention, but I felt my gaze hold on you for some reason. I guess seeing you look at the Buddha ignited some warm feeling in me? I think seeing you reminded me of my Yeye. I made my way towards the Buddha you were in front of. For a moment we both stood side by side in our own thoughts.
